Chettinad

Chettinad ( a region in south India ) in situated in Tamilnadu State located 20 miles from west coastal line of Bay of Bengal. Chettinad is the collection of 76 villages and and towns. It is a region of the Sivaganga District in the state of Tamilnadu. Chettinad includes areas in modern day Ramnadhapuram District and Pudukottai State of British India.Historical records show that the people of Chettinad were wooed and invited by the king of 13th century Pandian dynasty to settle down in their region which later became popular as Chettinad. Karaikudi is the capital of chettinad which includes Karaikudi and 74 other villages.It is the home of the Nattukottai Chettiars, a prosperous banking and business community. The people of the village speak Tamil.

Mainly ninety six places are considered to be the Chief places that Nagarathars have been living. By one such census, it is to say by the means of ‘oolian’ by Nagarathars estimated that there are seventy eight places. Now it reduced to seventy five places. In Sivagangai District, around karaikudi area there are twenty seven places. In Thirupatur, fourteen places, In Devakottai four places, In Pudukottai District around Thirumayam there are nineteen places.
